Benefits of Exotic Fruit

While some ordinary and everyday fruits, especially berries, such as blueberries, have a great supply of vitamins and antioxidants, many exotic and tropical fruits have many times the antioxidants and health benefits of local and more ordinary fruits.

It’s always fun to try new and exotic fruit from around the world, and the good thing is that most exotic fruit provide various health benefits and are good for your general health.  In fact, many exotic fruits promote weight loss.

Many studies on tropical and exotic fruit show that their benefits include lowering cholesterol and preventing cancer.  In fact, some exotic fruits have been directly tied to improving memory and mental power.

Many common, everyday foods you can find in your supermarket are actually considered exotic; these include pomegranate, passion fruit, and more.  Many more exotic fruits can be found in juice form in your supermarket; you may be able to find pomegranate, passion fruit, dragonfruit (pitaya), or acai juices in your supermarket.

Perhaps the most well-known exotic fruit is the acai (ah-sigh-ee) berry.  It has been promoted as a “superfood,” as it contains many antioxidants.  In fact, many believe that it can cure many health problems including heart disease and arthritis.  While the health benefits that the acai berry provides are extremely varied, it also provides many of the nutrients and antioxidants needed for everyday life.  For example, acai berries contain many times the protein, fiber, vitamins, antioxidants, minerals, and fatty acids of typical ordinary fruits.  In fact, many ethnic groups indigenous to Brazil call the acai tree the “Tree of Life.”

But let’s not just stop there – there are many, many more exotic fruits that have tons of health benefits, such as the dragonfruit, lychee, goji berry, mangosteen,  and kiwano.  Take goji berries, for example.  Goji berries have been used for their health benefits in traditional Chinese medicine for centuries.  Similarly to the acai berry, goji berries are totally packed with antioxidants, minerals, vitamins, and essential fatty acids.  Not only are goji berries packed with these health benefits, they also taste delicious.
